Did you know?

Starting January of 2015, businesses that have at least 50 full time employees are required to offer health insurance. And small business that has 25 employees or less, have an Washington zip code, and contribute at least 50% of employee only premium, may qualify for financial assistance or tax credits to help pay up to 50% of premium costs if the business is paying salaries that average $50,000 or less.

Washington’s small employers account for more than 50% of the private sector jobs in Washington but only about 34% with fewer than 10 employees offer health insurance. In 2014, tax credit increases to 50% for employers who pay at least 50% of their employees’ monthly health insurance premium.

Since the penalty for small businesses won’t start till 2015, small businesses that won’t offer health insurance should let their employees know that their employees may qualify for financial assistance to help pay for their coverage through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). Upon qualification to the exchange, businesses will pay their portion to the Exchange and the feds will send the rest to the carrier .
